I started actively avoiding all pre-release trailers, articles, and pictures before seeing a movie - and it's been great.

Movies now have much more color, depth, suspense, and wonder for me. I even try to avoid the casting so I'm more excited when one of my favorite actors or actresses shows up on screen. I highly recommend it.

One common example of this was in Interstellar*, with the low-profile addition of Matt Damon. I've heard from multiple people how pleasantly surprised they were when he appeared on screen. Though it's not a movie, the series Black Mirror had a lot of surprise appearances, a lot from Game of Thrones and other British movies/shows, such as GoT's Bron, Kelly MacDonald from Trainspotting, and Jon Hamm from Mad Men.

Though I have to admit that it's more difficult to avoid for some highly anticipated movies, such as the Star Wars saga additions and sequels of my favorite movies.

Anyone else do the same?

EDIT: Confused The Martian and Interstellar. Matt Damon space movies ¯_(ツ)_/¯

EDIT2: ironically added spoiler warnings
