Lemony Snicket's A Sequel of Unfortunate Events

A lot of people are buzzing about Netflix's new series based on A Series Of Unfortunate Events, and I've seen a few journalists saying Paramount axed the films series after the first one flopped, but that's not actually true. It made them enough money to develop a sequel.

When I was working on/off at The Mill and their sister companies (a visual effects studio here in London), we would regularly work on pitches for studio executives, and "Lemony Snicket's A Sequel of Unfortunate Events" (and that was the exact title) was one of the ones I worked on in 2007 and 2008.

It was initially a stop motion animated sequel that then became a 3D animation project. I left in 2008, but from conversations with my friends who are still there, it was never cancelled. They reworked the movie into an animated series, and from my understanding Netflix then bought the rights and changed it to a rebooted live action series.
