I finally caught up to watching Popstar on HBO, after watching it I'm now wondering why it has a 6.7/10 on imdb, I get that the script is at least average, but the jokes and personalities of the characters hole the movie and really do make it a fun time. Conner4Real feels like a mix between Macklemore and Justin Bieber at best when comparing the Equal Rights song and the Anne Frank house bit, but it also parodies a lot of the Pop Industry while also focusing on three characters in a damaged relationship.
Andy Samberg is also one of the most underrated actors working today in my opinion because he's got so much charisma and energy in this movie as well as the comedic timing feeling perfect, I wish I could see him in a lot more movies because he works so well at it. Let's not forget the CMZ parts, probably the best parts of the movie, Will Arnett, Eric Andre, and other stars making the most hilarious representation on TMZ, as well as the post credit scene with them.
Overall I wanted to make this post because it feels like it needs a lot more love, I think if the script was better it'd be a 8/10 instead of a 7/10 for me, but because the jokes hit hard so well and songs as well, to whereafter a second watch they still hold up to me. If you haven't watched this yet and have HBO I highly recommend it.
