"Lady Bird" is a damn near perfect debut from Greta Gerwig. It poignantly captures American middle class adolescence, post 9/11 anxiety, Catholic school, and the struggle of familial devotion all while giving us a powerful, dynamic and active female protagonist who is a joy to watch on screen.

I don't want to say much more because I just want people to go out and experience it with fresh eyes. I know it is doing well so far in its limited release but as we are often encouraging the support of original film here in r/movies, I felt a responsibility to take a moment to support "Lady Bird" in this sub.

I saw it last night here in NY in a theatre that was almost sold out. The film had the entire audience laughing and sobbing. Laurie Metcalf is incredible, same for Tracy Letts and the rest of the supporting cast. It is quietly powerful and deeply affirming of the human experience. I can't recommend it enough.
