In the amazing shootout scene at the end, there’s a great moment where Jeremy Renner’s character uses a Marlin Model 1895sbl to shoot and kill the DOE rapists/murderers.
In the brief moment before he shoots them, there’s a shot of the white, snowy landscape beyond the trailers. Moments pass and a shot rings out and Renner drops the first guy.
What I loved about this particular scene was that I didn’t even notice Renner was in the FOREGROUND of the shot until I replayed that scene. I’m sure a lot of us who have seen this movie might have realized this as well.
It made me realize that we must’ve been looking from where that guy that Renner shot was looking. I imagine he had a similar experience to the audience members. You’re looking and looking and don’t even notice the man in the foreground (or maybe you do but at the last second) until the shot rings out and you’re hit with a 45-70 govt. round in the chest and dropped dead.
Wind River is one of my favorite movies from 2017 and I keep thinking back to the little things about it that made it amazing to me. That scene in particular being one of them.
