I haven't seen that many westerns before and it's not a genre that particularly attracts me. But i was blown away by how fantastic Unforgiven is.
It's gorgeously shot, it never drags down or feels like it's going nowhere and i really appreciated how every character shows complexity. It certainly handles well the theme of good and evil and how men deal with killing and the perception of right and wrong.
Clint Eastwood is a very likable protagonist, who isn't the hero who saves the day. I really appreciated how it was never hidden what a shitty person he really was. Morgan Freeman can never be bad. But the one who really stuck with me was Gene Hackman, what a vicious character and he stole every scene he was in. Love seeing he got an Oscar for this, it's really earned.
Can't say i was surprised, cause i expected a good movie, but i'm very pleased with how great it really was. Clint Eastwood has directed some really good movies but i think this just might be my favorite of his.
