I just thought that a post would be nice, where studios that live in disneys shadow, get a little attention. Here is my list and a few example movies of the studios.
Aardman: Creators of "wallace and gromit", "shaun the sheep" and "chicken run". My favorite movie from them is "The Pirates". Not only is it really silly-funny but it's one, if not the hardest, drinking game movies ever. The rules are simple: you drink when the words "pirate", "captain" or "polly" is mentioned. I guarantee yo, that you won't reach the end of the movie. If you are not into alcohol and have kids this studio is also perfectly suited for the little movie enjoyers.
Cartoon Saloon: A little Irish studio which seems unfortunately to be bought up by apple in the future. Movies they made are "the secret of kells", "sound of the sea", "the breadwinner" and "wolfwalkers". Their artstyle is phenomenal and every scene in "song of the sea" and "wolfwalkers" is astonishing. If you can spare the money then i absolutely recommend buying their artbooks. While "the secret of kells" and "the breadwinner" isn't for kids, the other movies handle quite serious topics but are lighthearted and concentrate on a good ending.
Laika: Is known for Coraline and Paranorman but a lot of people don't know about "Kubo and the two strings". It is a stopmotion movie with asian fantasy elements and if you have not yet seen it, i encourage you to do so.
Blue Spirit: A french studio which doesn't have a definitive style. Their repertoire includes "My life as courgette", a kids friendly movie about a kid that accidentally ends up as an orphan, and "The prince's voyage", a philosophical fantasy film about nature and what a place we have in it.
Sergio Pablos Animation Studio: Till this day, there is only one movie by this studio, but by the sole talent behind it, it will be really interesting what is to come. Box the was, the Studio animated "Klaus" which is my Personal favorite christmas movie.
Les armateurs: Yet another french Animation studio which colloberated and shared a lot of style with Cartoon saloon. They animated wonderful kid-friendly movies like "Ernest and celestine" but also are mit shy of being artitistic with movies like "The swallows of Kabul".
