I'm a fan of the works of Gerard Butler. You generally know what you're getting before you go in, and he generally delivers. For example, I enjoyed Geostorm. So, when I saw Greenland was on HBO, starring Butler (and Morena Baccarin), I made a point to watch it.
Boy was I surprised. This film is nothing like a typical Butler film. It's a far more realistic take on an end of the world scenario than I expected, with a lot of truly chilling scenes showing how society breaks down in the days/weeks before the end.
This film is not perfect of course and you could argue about the characters acting dumb, but I doubt any of us can truly say how we'd behave in such circumstances, as none of us have ever experienced anything like an "end of the world" scenario.
The film is surprisingly bleak and tense. I really enjoyed it, even though my mindset was not right for this kind of film and found myself slightly disturbed when done watching. I was looking for escapist entertainment!
