Before you comment, yes, there are nine movies in total. Four are original films, and five are direct-to-DVD spin-offs. And I've watched them all! I wrote each movie review a bit long, so I've shortened them all here. Now, I'd like to share my list ranking the movies from the best to worst:
-
American Pie 2 (2001): Slightly cheesier than the original, but I also find it funnier, more satisfying, and just as good as the first, perhaps even a little better. I liked that it doesn't add many heartwarming moments like the first film, which is probably why I enjoyed it a bit more. The scene with the "two lesbians" is easily the most memorable and funniest moment of the series. I also thoroughly enjoyed the friendship and the chemistry between Jason Biggs and Alyson Hannigan. 8.5 out of 10.
-
American Reunion (2012): It was the second movie I saw in theaters when it was first released. I probably expected a generic comedy that lacked nostalgia, since I didn't remember much about it. However, what truly surprised me was how entertaining it turned out to be, and funny enough to have me laughing throughout. The humor, most of the jokes, and the scenarios were all cleverly hilarious. I loved the warm summer film aesthetic, which looked quite fit and pleasant. It was great to see all the original cast members back together. Nothing felt missing. Eugene Levy and Jennifer Coolidge shared short scenes, but they quickly created excellent chemistry together. It works well as a satisfying finale and wraps up everything nicely. 8.5 out of 10.
-
American Pie (1999): The entire cast is excellent, except for Thomas Ian Nicholas, who is rather forgettable in his role. It has some good humor and a great atmosphere. And I absolutely loved Seann William Scott's high energy in his role. It went from being a little wild with tons of dick jokes to developing romantic relationships, which I'm not much of a fan of. I think the earlier acts show that it just works better as a straight-up sex comedy, in my opinion. But then it works everything fine for what it is. 8.5 out of 10.
-
American Wedding (2003): Using a wedding theme in the American Pie series was kind of lazy. I think it’s still a fun movie, it falls short of what you’d expect from American Pie. This movie feels out of place and empty, missing some of the characters from the previous films, especially Chris Klein’s. I don’t think his character was even mentioned. The different color grading and overall vibe between the films are jarring. It seems like each film had different cinematographers. I liked the dark tint in the first film, but this one is too summery, giving it a very campy look. Seann William Scott's Stifler acted like a sort of retarded sociopath. The other characters felt bland and were lazily acted, with no compelling storylines involved either. It made me think that The Hangover (2009) is everything that this movie missed. All in all, it’s just a campy and entertaining movie without heart. 7 out of 10.
-
American Pie Presents: The Naked Mile (2006): It's definitely a better, wilder, grosser, and more typical American Pie movie than the previous direct-to-DVD one, Band Camp. I like that the storyline takes place in college. The storyline is more enjoyable, and there are funnier moments throughout. The opening scene is hilarious. While the football scene feels a tad long, the running naked and half-naked party scenes are all pretty entertaining. I also genuinely enjoyed the silly and gross jokes. 6.5 out of 10.
-
American Pie Presents: The Book of Love (2009): I found this movie quite enjoyable, even though it's the second lowest-rated movie of the series. Some jokes feel dated, but the scene with the old prostitute gave me a good laugh. The opening scene is funny too. The CGI moose raping Stifler was wild. There are plenty of funny moments throughout. Beyond the humor, the movie has a fun plot, an enjoyable cast, and all solid chemistries. 6.5 out of 10.
-
American Pie Presents: Band Camp (2005): The film’s production quality is noticeably low, yet it's mildly watchable and has some good American Pie-style jokes. I thought the lead actor who plays Matt was awful and annoying. While the ending may be cringy and weak, the movie overall is okay. It’s not terrible or unwatchable, it just simply serves as a time-killer, nothing else. 6 out of 10.
-
American Pie Presents: Beta House (2007): It honestly felt empty and boring with a weak plot. There was just a lot of unnecessary nudity, and the sheep scene was both funny and so, so gross. I wasn't a fan of the first hour, but the competition against the nerds afterward was really entertaining. That's all I can say about it. It just felt too short because it only runs for 83 minutes without the credits, and I only enjoyed about like 20 minutes of it. 5.5 out of 10.
-
American Pie Presents: Girls’ Rules (2020): It's a standalone sequel, but it feels more like a female-led reboot of the first film. I thought it had some hilarious scenes, but for Christ’s sake, it felt extremely cheap with horrible editing. The female squad in an American Pie movie? Please, this is not the American Pie it used to be. Honestly, this movie feels like a lazy cash grab. The acting was boring too. I thought Lizze Broadway, best known for Gen V, was a bright spot as a female Stifler. It was also nice to see Zachary Gordon, who plays Greg from Diary of a Wimpy Kid. It’s not a terrible movie in general, just mediocre, disappointing, and offensive to American Pie fans. 5.5 out of 10.
Has anyone else seen all nine movies here? How would you rank these 4 original films? Sorry for a bit long post, but thank you for reading word for word anyway, and have a nice day, lol.
