Of course, this can be true for a lot of beloved films/novels/TV shows/etc. when you get right down to it (try explaining a lot of "Star Wars" or "LOTR" to someone completely unfamiliar with them and you'll probably get a fair share of confusion), but "Dune", both in book and film mode, has some of the weirdest things ever when you think about it. Imagine trying to explain to a newbie that there's a planet that has a world-class drug, it's the only place to get the drug, this drug is the byproduct of huge worms and the entire galaxy spanning civilization doesn't work without the drug. Oh and this drug is how people navigate and travel. (Imagine if your Uber driver turned off Google Maps, did a line of coke and said "I know where we're going", because that's basically what the Spacing Guild does, only with a "Scarface"'-level pile of cocaine.) Plus there's a group of ninja psychic nuns (who also use that drug) who are breeding a superhuman, but one of them had a boy instead of a girl, so that complicated matters. Plus there are human computers who get super-smart due to that drug and ANOTHER drug. And...well, you get the picture. And if they continue adapting the rest of the "Dune" series, the moviegoing public will get to see even weirder stuff. Just imagine if "God Emperor" sees the big screen.
