Fellas I just watched this movie, so don't mind the fact that this is about a movie that's sort of irrelevant in 2024. Call it a rant, whatever, but if you've got opinions, lmk.
I heard a lot of people didn't like this movie. Yeah I watched it a tad late but people were complaining about this being a bad movie because it wasn't a bad sequel, and you couldn't realistically build a chocolate shop like that in a day. I'm sorry, it's supposed to be a "world of pure imagination", no? I mean I almost didn't watch this movie because so many people told me the movie was cringy, a daycare singalong with horrible music.
If you don't like this movie because it doesn't align with the books, you can have that opinion. I read the book when I was like seven, so I'm not really sure what happens before or whatever, but complaining about 'remakes' that don't follow the plot right is a fair reason if you were a huge fan of the OG text.
But come on, you're telling me you can't handle a musical? A whimsical experience to a far away land? I suppose as someone who grew up musically, I loved the songs. They had something so magical, something that took me away on a cloud where I could forget about all my problems.
My friend said anyone who didn't like it is just "so pathetically depressed" which is a little extreme by my standards (I prefer not to judge people by their opinions) but I ain't gonna lie, this is the first movie to make me cry. The second work of entertainment to make me cry after reading Anne of Green Gables. And if you haven't guess, I pretty much don't cry. At all. I didn't even cry when Messi left Barca (football team), and I've been a Barcelona fan since I was seven. And I was ENAMOURED by Messi.
Why? Because the last song, and the whole movie made me realise that I'm never gonna be a kid again. To have that genuine, senseless, beautiful plethora of dreams and wishes, of that pure, magical imagination. Now I'm the depressed sod, because the childlikeness of a kid is so precious, the curiosity and the willingness to fantasize is no longer.
