How to Enforce a Specific Workbook Locale in Tableau

In Tableau versions 6.1 and later, you can optionally set a locale for the workbooks that you create. The locale setting specifies the appropriate way to display locale-sensitive labels and formats in your workbook. By default, a workbook is set to use an Automatic setting, which inherits the locale from the operating system (OS). If the workbook is published to Tableau Server, the workbook will be displayed according to the locale specified by the server OS. For example, if you create a workbook that is set to Automatic using an English (United States) OS, and publish to Server that uses a French (France) OS, then the locale-sensitive terms and formatting in the workbook display in French (France).
If you prefer to show the same locale-sensitive labels and formats regardless of who opens your workbook, then you can select a specific locale. The following list contains areas of your workbook that may change as a result of the locale setting you choose:
Locale-sensitive labels:
  • Currency, units of measure, etc.
  • Maps
Locale-sensitive formatting:
  • Dates
  • Describe sheet, trend lines, etc.
  • Quick filter data entry and display
  • Week, month, quarter, and fiscal year
