Tableau Warning When Saving Packaged Workbooks

This warning caused when the workbook contains data connections to live data sources (relational databases or OLAP cubes). These data connections are not compatible with Tableau Reader.
If you intend to use the packaged workbook in Tableau Reader, you need to create Tableau Data Extracts for all active data connections in the workbook. If there are unused data connections, you need to close them.

Verifying the Data Connections

Step 1

Drop down the data connection list in the upper left corner of the Desktop window

Step 2

Select the first data connection listed without the word "Extract" at the end.

Step 3

When selecting the data connection, Tableau automatically open a view.
  • If Tableau opens an existing view, create a data extract by Data > Extract
  • If Tableau opens a blank worksheet, close the data connection by Data > Data Connection > Close

Step 4

Verify all the data connections in the list use an data extract.
When you are finished, you can save the workbook as a packaged workbook without this warning.
