I just recently watched this film and I've always wondered why the town is in what looks like a state of depression? I understand the old man says to Alan that his father put all the money and time into trying to find him hence why the shoe factory closes. But is that really the reason the town looks like it's in depression? Edit: I meant to say Parrish.
