Of all the true-life war movies, crime dramas, tragic political comedies, journalists discover the mis-deeds... none of them remained true to the real events like A13. I think the one-and-only criticism I've ever heard about the Ron Howard masterpiece is that Jim Lovell never actually said the words "Houston, we have a problem."
And I can forgive that because when the screenplay was written nobody probably foresaw it becoming one of the most often quoted movie lines of all time. Certainly they weren't taking huge liberties with the timeline or creative license to convey the characters' overall emotions.
As for the events.. they happened just like Opie said. And it's a movie that's as good today as it was 23 years ago.
Anything out there better than Apollo 13?
