Example, in the movie Gladiator upon entering the Colosseum the first time Maximus asks “have any of you served in the army?” While Many say yes, one guy says “I served with you at Vindobona”.
This guy knew who he was all along and never said a word. That unspoken respect for Maximus is pretty cool.
Edit: now that I’m thinking about this it’s harder to think of some than I thought it would be. There are those like Mel Gibson’s character in We Were Soldiers and he makes sure no one else is left before he takes his foot off the ground. Or Tom Hank’s character in Saving Private Ryan in him flat asking what the pool is up too in regards to his men trying to guess his actual job. Both show respect to their soldiers, but it’s a part of the character or plot.
