I’m rewatching Kung Fu Hustle. There’s a lot of discussion about how CGI hit amazing peaks a decade and a half ago, but fell off in favor of studios cranking out schlock, but what about the movies where bad CGI is absolutely perfect?
When Stephen Chow is bugs bunny cartoon running and the old lady hits the billboard - that is absolutely perfect. When he’s kicking people in the final fight and there’s pinball machine noises - perfect.
Also Kung Pow with the cow fight, and basically that whole movie.
When is bad CGI exactly perfect for the joke? What movies use it effectively or in a self-aware manner?
