I just re-watched "Dogma:" (1999), and instead of participating in discussing the art of movies on this subreddit, I want to defend someone I think is a very good filmmaker.
Look, I don't care about if he wants to direct a Star Wars movie, or if he is a schill for Marvel, or any of the negative stuff I've read about him over the years. I just want to celebrate him as an artist.
Maybe some of his movies post Clerks II aren't as good as his other movies and maybe he got a little up his own ass. I'm trying to give every caveat I can so no one bashes him for reasons I've already heard. When he is on, he is on. I think Dogma is an extremely well written dark comedy that is equal parts exciting and funny as hell.
I'm not saying he's the best director on the planet, but I think he is very gifted as a writer and filmmaker. Sorry, I've been seeing some bad things about him and I wanted to stick up for him as a director. 😁
