My friend and I set up a cozy movie night to watch the new Lilo and Stitch and we have never gone from relaxed to just full on angry that fast in our lives. (SPOLIERS)

My best friend came over Sunday night and we decided to do a whole movie night. Popcorn, candles, Solawave masks on, snacks everywhere and we put on the new Lilo and Stitch because we both grew up on the original and thought it would be the perfect comfort rewatch.

So the first 80% we were loving it like the casting was great and Stitch looked amazing, we were both in our feelings getting emotional like two grown women watching a kids movie on a Sunday night. No shame lol.

And then the ending happened...

They litreally had Nani like the same Nani who spent the ENTIRE original fighting to keep her family together freaking put Lilo in foster care so she could go to college. My friend literally paused it and went "wait WHAT." We both just sat there staring at each other. The whole point of the original was "ohana means family and family means nobody gets left behind." That was THE message and they just threw it away and Nani just leaves and leaves Lilo behind and people say the foster mom was already part of the ohana and sure maybe but that completely misses the point like the original was about a sister refusing to give up and the remake turned it into "sometimes giving up is the responsible thing to do" which is a wildly different message to put in a kids movie.

We spent the rest of the night arguing about it instead of relaxing. Self care night completely ruined. Did they genuinely butcher one of the most important messages in Disney history or are we overeacting?
